Jersey Care & Washing Guide: Keep Your Kit Looking New
Essential jersey care guide. Learn how to wash, dry, and store your sports jerseys properly to prevent fading, peeling, and damage.
📑 In This Guide:
Washing Your Jersey Correctly
Always turn jerseys inside out before washing to protect names, numbers, and sponsors. Use cold water (30°C/86°F max) and mild detergent with no bleach or fabric softener. Choose a gentle/delicate cycle. Never wash jerseys with heavy items like jeans or towels that can cause friction damage. For heavily soiled jerseys, pre-treat stains with a gentle stain remover before washing.
Drying and Storage
Air dry jerseys flat or on a padded hanger. Never use a dryer - the heat will damage names, numbers, and cause shrinkage. Keep out of direct sunlight which fades colors. Store jerseys folded in a drawer or hanging on wide padded hangers that won't stretch the shoulders. If displaying jerseys, use UV-protective frames or cases. For long-term storage, use acid-free tissue paper between folds.
Protecting Names and Numbers
Heat-pressed names and numbers can peel or crack over time if not cared for properly. Always wash inside out, and consider hand-washing precious jerseys. Avoid carrying bags with shoulder straps that rub against printed areas. If numbers begin to lift at corners, a low-heat iron with a pressing cloth can re-adhere them, but test on a small area first.
Special Care for Player Versions
Player Version jerseys require extra care due to their lighter, more delicate fabrics. Hand wash when possible, or use a mesh laundry bag for machine washing. These jerseys are more prone to snags and pulls, so avoid contact with velcro, zippers, and rough surfaces. The heat-pressed badges and lightweight material mean these jerseys should be treated as delicate sportswear rather than everyday casual wear.
